Iraq Demands United States form a more inclusive government

Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki, expressing
dismay at failure of US democracy
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki spoke for his parliament and cabinet today when he urged the United States to form a more inclusive government that was responsive to more than just the minority of extremely wealthy individuals.

"Polls show less than half of Americans approve of President Obama's performance, record public distrust of the US Congress, and little change economic, trade, budget, tax, and foreign policy regardless of which of the two major parties is in control of the White House or Congress," said Maliki.

"Further, recent studies have shown that American politicians are far more responsive to wealthy donors and past and future employers or business cronies than they are to their constituents even when what the wealthy want conflicts with the wishes of their constituents or actually harms them," he added.

"Therefore, for the stability of the United States and because of the effect their large economy and military presence has on the rest of the world, we ask that they dissolve their government and reconstitute a "salvation government"  that is more inclusive of the vast majority and their economic interests and diminishes the influence of money in policy-making, whether through the inclusion of smaller parties or establishing means of direct democracy at the national level or whatever it takes," he concluded.

Maliki went on to say that the United States could learn from Iraq's mistakes before the US suffers an insurgency of its own.

Maliki could not resist ending on an ironic note.

"You know, the US could even learn a thing or two about democracy from us. The American people wanted to end their government's occupation of Iraq almost as much as Iraqis did.   The Iraqi government responded appropriately, negotiating for the withdrawal of foreign troops, while the US negotiated fiercely to keep troops in the country and now looks for a way to reintroduce them, despite 72% of Americans saying the war was not worth it.  If you think that's democracy, then Iraq still has some hidden WMD's I'd like to sell you."

Iraqis vow mutiny over Bush OIL THEFT LAW

Why aren't the Democrats denouncing and investigating this Hydrocarbon Law that Iraqis don't want but Bush is forcing on them?

Gen. Jay Garner, the first guy Bush appointed to run Iraq said trying to privatize their oil would lead to violence. He was right, but the Bushies are still trying to do it anyway.

The blood of our troops and the Iraqis is on the hands of the Bush administration but if the Democrats as a group fail to speak out on this economic war crime, it will be on their hands too.

Iraq unions vow 'mutiny' over oil law

"This law cancels the great achievements of the Iraq people,"
Subhi al-Badri, head of the Iraqi Federation of Union Councils, told the al-Sharqiyah TV station. He referred specifically to laws that nationalized Iraq's oil sector.

Iraq holds 115 billion barrels of proven reserves, the third largest in the world, and likely much more when the country is fully explored.

It could produce more than the 2 million barrels per day, and many are pushing the oil law as a means of solidifying investment in the sector. The law, as drafted, allows for foreign access to the oil, a line that must not be crossed, the oil unions say.

"If the Iraqi Parliament approves this law, we will resort to mutiny," he said. "This law is a bomb that may kill everyone. Iraqi oil does not belong to any certain side. It belongs to all future generations."

POLL: Is it taxation without representation if those we elect ignore the public will?

There are a number of issues both parties do this on like trade and immigration.

The Democrats in particular ignore their base on these core issues:

  • the Iraq War
  • potential Iran War
  • impeaching Bush & Cheney
  • healthcare reform that eliminates insurance companies or at least makes them subservient to the public good.
In some ways, we have exactly what Bush gave the Iraqis: the appearance of democracy that is intended to anything but actually represent our interests.

Maybe the only thing that's changed since 1776 is who's doing the screwing and how subtly they are doing it.

Is it taxation without representation if those elected ignore public will?
YES--it is taxation without representation. We are suckered into thinking we have a choice then just get screwed from a slightly different position.
NO--business interests are just more effective at working the system than us, so it's our own fault.
NO--people like the glacial, inperceptible change the Democrats pursue. That's what people really dislike about the Patriot Act--passed too darned fast.

SIROTA: Final Insult: Dems Brag to Press About Deceiving the Public on Iraq

I would rather have my most cynical suspicions proven wrong.

But it doesn't happen very often.

The Final Insult: Dems Brag to Press About Deceiving the Public on Iraq

And here's the worst part of it all - Democrats are now bragging about it. Not only have they sent out a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraising email attempting to confuse voters by claiming with a straight face that they really stood up to President Bush. But most insulting of all, they are actually running to reporters to pat themselves on the back for engineering a procedural pirouette designed to confuse the public. Here's the Post again:

"But while protesters outside the Capitol condemned what they saw as a capitulation, Democrats inside were remarkably understanding of their speaker's contortions. Party leaders jury-rigged the votes yesterday to give all Democrats something to brag about...Democrats saw brilliance in the legerdemain. And with such contortions came more appreciation for the efforts Pelosi was making to fund the war in a fashion most palatable to angry Democrats. 'It was the responsible thing to do, and she's a responsible speaker,' said Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.)."
This is what we're dealing with folks. A party that runs to the press to brag about the brilliance of using their majority not to end the war, but to create a situation that makes it seem as if they oppose the war, while actually helping Republicans continue it.

LETTER TO CONGRESS: investigate OIL motive for war and its affect on delaying withdrawal

Sent to my two senators and congressman:

Please investigate or urge the relevant committees to investigate the oil motive for the Iraq War, starting with the Cheney Energy task force in 2001 through the administration plan to privatize and expropriate Iraq's oil, the negotiation of production sharing agreements, oil company pressure to dictate the terms of the Iraqi Hydrocarbon Law, and most importantly, how oil company pressure may be slowing the pullout of our troops. Ironically, this was one area where the Iraq Study Group agreed with the Bush administration. The ISG urged them to continue to pursue privatization of Iraq's oil for the benefit of oil companies.

We use 25% of the world's oil, so those countries would be slitting their own throats if they ever tried to cut us off. Therefore, there is no strategic need to occupy and have American companies pump that oil apart from making those companies more profitable, especially since they have shown no gratitude to the American people at the gas pump and continue to demand tax cuts and subsidies.

Although the mainstream press has been largely silent on this, the American people have figured it out, and if we hear more empty platitudes while Washington continues to pander to big oil, we will have to assume we can't trust the Democrats either.

I have read some very encouraging things about what the Democrats plan to do with control of Congress. Being honest about why we are in Iraq and taking bold action instead of telling kinder, gentler lies would be an excellent start.

If you are unfamiliar with what I am talking about (which I doubt), please read some of these news stories and research on the oil motive for the war:
