Einstein was smart enough to join a UNION

Some Republican congressman posted a video reinforcing the stereotype that all union members are foul-mouthed, ignorant, blue collar goons.

I wonder if that's what he thinks actors like Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger, his neighborhood cop, firemen, and elementary school teachers are like.

Even Albert Einstein was smart enough to join a union and advocate that others do the same.

Unions are the downfall of American society. Unions are already causing good paying jobs to leave the country because unions are too greedy. I think people should start standing back and looking at the unions and what they actually do for their members, what havoc in the workplace they can cause, and how greedy they become over time. Maybe then, jobs wouldn't be leaving this country anymore and we wouldn't be in this financial mess. Banks are bad, unions are worse.

RE: Anonymous said "Unions are the downfall of American society." It never ceases to amaze me that there so many completely uninformed morons in this country. And the fact that they are proud to be buffoons generation after generation,Wellthat is just plain sad. Red states feed at the trough and the blue states fill it.

While we're on the topic of Einstein, I'd like to point out that Germany remains heavily unionized to this day. And labor laws protecting workers are vastly more powerful in Germany than they are in the U.S.

As a result, German workers enjoy an AVERAGE of two months paid vacation each year, along with numerous paid holidays. German workers also have a say in how corporations are run (thanks to laws that let labor reps sit on the corporate board of directors). And many German workers enjoy strong job security that would be unfathomable to U.S. workers.

Is all this a recipe for economic disaster, you say?

Well, consider this. Germany is the world's largest exporter. Yes, Germany exports even more than China. In fact, China is one of Germany's biggest markets (since the ultra-high-tech good Germany specializes in, such as factory production equipment and machine tools, are in heavy demand in China).

To the commenter who said, "Unions are the downfall of American society." I find it interesting how people like you rage about how supposedly "greedy" unions are. But you never have a word to say about greedy, short-sighted American CEOs who got us into this mess in the first place. (BTW, American CEOs make by far the highest pay packages of CEOs on earth---some 20 times what their counterparts in Europe make).
